Un golpe de ataúd en tierra es algo perfectamente serio
Charcoal of wood, brass, iron, leather and paper
91 x 175 cm
This piece comes from a poem by Antonio Machado and fits within the project because it is a metaphor about the burial ritual. The dimensions of this piece are based on my own body scale, so that the handles of an absent coffin are at the same level of my eyes, as if I was carrying my own coffin. The three side handles have been replaced by ring knockers. They were used as callers and for seeking asylum in a church, in a non-verbal way, with the simple gesture of grabbing the ring knocker.
—The title of this work quotes a verse by Antonio Machado from his book «Soledades» (1907).
