Paciencia y barajar is Christian García Bello’s first solo exhibition in Madrid. The show aims to trace a line through his work, exploring the artist’s research in recent years around the individual and their scale in relation to the landscape.
The title refers to a quote from Don Quixote, later adopted by Unamuno to describe his own state of waiting, drawing a parallel between the act of shuffling cards and the movement of ocean waves. Patience—the French name for the game of solitaire—understood as non-action, and shuffling as a necessary automatism preceding the creation of order.
It is precisely at that intersection between waiting and structuring that his work currently stands. It seeks to reconcile the simplification inherent to any idealization with a process of formal schematization, while maintaining a constant intention to construct meaningfully complex structures.
